Pickles wrapped a vine around the forgotten Pokeball, bringing it close to his face to inspect it. Liam lifted Skyler off of her knees, and she took little notice, keeping her gaze trained heavily on Sasha's retreating figure. Pokii nudged the Mantyke once more, wondering if she'd need extra help. "We'll go after her... in a bit." Skyler told Liam, watching Pickles examine the Pokeball still. He seemed fascinated with it, and trying to lighten her own mood Skyler stalked over to him, and tried to tussle it away. "Its a pokeball not a toy, dufus," but none of her playfulness was really there.

Mantyke had very little energy, but enough to tell Pokii that the odds of Sasha leaving her pokeball were high, and he just wanted to be in it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
These places are bigger than they look, Sasha thought as she sat in a chair in one of the deserted halls of the Vermillion PokeCenter. I hope Skylar got Mantyke's PokeBall. Beside the chair she sat in was a door, with a clinic sign next to it labeled Pre-Op, and inside was one of the many Nurse Joys and a Blissey, examining what had gone wrong with Shade - other than his rage suddenly capturing him - while he was under. The handle to the door slowly turned, and out stepped the Blissey, who beckoned Sasha to come into the room. And she did. The white walls were lined with counters, a sink, and a lot of drawers and cabinets. Charts were plastered above them, showing the anatomy of common pokemon, and in the center of the room was a blue cot, a small lump underneath a white blanket on it. "Is he..." Sasha trailed off, not wanting to say the words. "No, I induced him into a sleep so we wouldn't have to worry about cooperation problems. He is a shadow pokemon, correct?" Nurse Joy talked with a professional atmosphere, filled with knowledge and concern. "Yes, he is. I helped him overcome the corruption when I was a child, and since then he's been pure."
Their conversation was long and hard. Nurse joy explained what had happened during the battle, and what Shade had thought.
"He need poison like humans need blood," Joy finally said.
"How can he get it?" Sasha asked, afraid the answer would be poison-donors.
"Well, we still have to figure that part out." Joy walked out of the room, motioning for Sasha to follow, the Blissey staying to watch Shade. When they were outside, she spoke again. "We have two options. One is we go ahead and give him some of your own poison, being that you two are practically the same species and your poison is the same. This can be risky, because it is very difficult to seperate the poison from the blood, and often times mistakes are made. If he gets any blood into his system that is human, it can be fatal." She waited while Sasha took this in. "Our other option is to have other trainers allow us to take some of their Nidoran's poison. Think about it while we continue to tend to your pokemon."
When the nurse was inside the room again, and Sasha was left in the hall, she collapsed into the chair, set her head in her hands, and tried hard to think through sobs.
"Disc, Luvdisc." Skyler lifted her head at the bobbing Pokii, still holding the pokeball. Connecting two and two she returned the Mantyke to it's ball, clipping it one on of the empty spots on her belt. "Pokii, Liam, return." The Shiftry was slightly surprised but obeyed, disappearing into the designated ball. "Come on Pick-- ACK." The dopey Pokemon lifted her up onto it's shoulders, wrapping vines around her waist and legs to keep her on top. As if reading her mind he headed for the Pokemon Center, lumbering through it's automatic doors with difficulty. "You dope", she told the Pokemon flatly, but her eyes were trained on the occupants of the center, looking for Sasha. She placed the four pokeballs on the counter, including Mantyke for the nurse to heal, scanning as she waited to get them back.
I need some air. Sasha walked down the hall towards the lobby area of the PokeCenter. Her head hung low, and she averted her eyes, though she knew that most the people at the center were watching her. Her skin itched, and she ran out of the building, holding back tears.
Outside, she headed for the dock that she had just battled at. Sasha stood at its edge, watching her reflection become distorted by a docking ferry nearby. She looked over her shoulder, staring blankly at the PokeCenter, then turned her eyes back at her reflection, studying her features, the body created by mutation, the wrong ingredients mixing together to create...
But what was she? Was she horrible, or splendid? She didn't know. All she knew was that her best friend, the only thing she'd ever loved - truly loved - was in a building behind her. Dying.
I should have never put him through that. It didn't have a purpose, but I was stupid to believe he was like any other pokemon. That he was normal. All he'd ever fought for was reason. To protect me.
"...!!" Skyler didn't notice Sasha pass until she was out the door, and hastily she snapped the Pokeballs onto her belt, and from where she was still seated on Pickles she guided him out the door. He moved slow enough to not intrude on the Nidoran girl's moment untill Skyler actually spoke. She had wrapped her arm around the top of Pickle's head, and placed the other one between one of his tangles so she seemed like she was hanging on when in reality the Tangrowth had her wrapped overly tight. "Sorry," she finally said.
Sasha didn't reply for a while. She registered Skylar's words, but her thoughts were still lost. "That's what I stopped myself from saying when I first saw you. But hey, I'm sure you hear that a lot, when people find out your arm is fake." Truth filled her voice, but Sasha couldn't bring herself to face the girl that she had known for only a few hours, and yet they had gone from 'hello' to opponents in battle to sympathetic twins. Was Arceus trying to give them some sort of sign?
"Besides, Nurse Joy said all he needs is more..." she trailed off, the word stuck in her throat. "But, hopefully some goodhearted trainers with the right pokemon will help." If not, it's life or death from me.
Sasha continued to look out into the waters. She sat down, her legs over the edge, her toes submerged in the salt- and fresh-water mixture.
Skyler rested her chin on top of Pickle's head, letting Sasha go through her own thoughts a bit more until she responded. "No, I really don't hear that a lot. I cover myself up most of the time, you just walked in when I wasn't expecting anyone. I wasn't really thinking ahead of bandaging up..." she trailed off, petting her Tangrowth for a second in contemplation. She wasn't quite sure what Shade was needing, but she assumed it wasn't something she could give, otherwise, she figured, Sasha woulda asked. "Tangrowthhhhhh." "You ate when we were on the boat!" "Tan, Taaannnnnnn grrrrrrrroooooowww--" "Shut it already! We'll eat later." The racket continued for a few moments as Skyler peeled herself away from the pokemon, calling him back once she was free. She stood behind Sasha for a moment before holding out Mantyke's ball. "Here."
Sasha was so glad that she wasn't facing Skylar, because her Tangrowth's hissy-fit was making her laugh like crazy. She regained her composure quickly, and finally faced Skylar, letting a few chuckles slip out of her mouth. "I figured you'd get the hint when I left it. And if you hadn't, I can always count on Mantyke," she told Skylar, taking the sphere from her and hooking it on her own belt.
"So, have any plans? Anywhere you need to be?"
"No. Not really. I have no commitments at the moment." She sat down next to Sasha on the pier, but far enough back where her feet wouldn't hit the water. "Well, kinda. I got a hungry dope to feed."
"Hahaha," Sasha laughed, resting her arm over her stomach and laying her back flat against the pier. "You're so lucky. Not only do you have pure pokemon, the latest technology, and a world explored, but you have..." It was hard for Sasha to say it, that Skylar and her pokemon were genuine friends, so she changed the subject.
"So, how did you and your pokemon become so close? I mean, was it at first sight, or did it grow over time?"
Skyler gave Sasha a quizzical look, frowing slightly. She drew her knees up to her chest, wrapping her good arm around them and bad one pinned between her legs and chest. "Like any other trainer did. We were always on the move - I loved that - and I never wanted to be a trainer. I just wanted to explore. But I came across this shiny Seedot one day, and it capitvated me. My dad caught it for me, and gave it to me. Me and Liam have been together since. Made me realize just because something or someone looks different doesn't mean they are bad." She rested her chin on her knees, and Liams ball twisted slightly on her belt in recoginition. "Couldn't decide if I like the fight or the pizzaz of a contest so I raised a Snorunt, Azure, then I found Luvdisc, Pokii... then through some unfortunate tangle of events I got Pickles. He was already evo'd, someone must of just gave up on him and I took pity." She realized suddenly she strayed away from her question so she summed up with, "Over time. Liam totally hated me at first. Azure too. I think Pokii liked me more than I liked her at first and well, Pickles was too stupid for me to hate him or vice versa."
Sasha held back tears of jealousy of Skylar's words. Mantyke only listened to her because her father told her to, and Shade, Sasha wasn't sure why. So, she left it at that, and changed the subject. Again.
"Well, I was supposed to be on a ferry heading for Sinnoh right now, but, yah," she let the explaination hang silently between them, then continued, "So, I've got two ferry tickets and nothing to do. Wanna come to the Pokemon Fan Club with me?" Sasha was referring to the small family-run house that was obsessed with Pokemon and their happiness. "It's right over there, and it functions as a library too." This she was glad about, because she the only thing she wanted to do right now was get lost in the myths of Pokemon.
Skyler tilted her head, pondering this. "Sure," she answered finally, trying to get past her own thoughts. 'How did she go crying over her Nidoran to wanting to be with other pokemon and listening about my own?'
Sasha stood up and startined walking back toward land, heading for a small building with a heart ober its door. "Come on!" she called to Skylar, then walked in the door.
The walls were lined with books and chairs, and few people were there. In the middle of the room, a man sat on a couch, asleep. Sasha rushed to the shelves as soon as she saw them, reading titles and browsing selections.
Skyler followed with a little less enthusiasum, double checking her jacker was decently covering her arm before following in. The collections of books didn't inspire her to take out any of them, and she simply wandered over to where Sasha was, leaning against one of the shelves.
